Trainings
Skyguide offers an annual "Certified Air Traffic Controller CHE" course with several classes. On successful completion of the course, we guarantee a job at one of our 14 locations throughout Switzerland.
Certified air traffic controller CHE
A fascination for aviation and technology, teamwork and responsibility are just some of the aspects of the profession of air traffic controller CHE (also known as air traffic controller ATCO). Air traffic controllers CHE are responsible for ensuring that air traffic is handled safely, economically and ecologically efficiently. They monitor all aircraft in the assigned airspace 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They communicate with pilots and colleagues in the team and in neighboring sectors. Certified air traffic controllers CHE work in the control tower, in approach and departure control, in the control centers or as tactical fighter controllers in the military operations center.
Requirement profile
- Matura or apprenticeship with Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (Federal VET Diploma)
- Swiss citizenship (mandatory for military air traffic control)
- Citizens: in EU-28/EFTA states or settlement permit C (civil air traffic control)
- Between 18 and 28 years old at the start of training
- German, French or Italian at level C1
- English at level B2
- Logical thinking, able to multitask
- Resilient, team player
- Extremely responsible, reliable
Characteristics of the training
Training to become a qualified air traffic controller CHE with a license takes around 30 months. The training includes the subjects of aerodynamics, aircraft technology, meteorology, radar and radio technology, navigation, aeronautical information services and technical English. Students also receive practical training on the simulator and in the workplace. The course concludes with a diploma thesis. The title "Certified Air Traffic Controller CHE" is recognized by the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation SERI and opens doors to the entire aviation sector.
