Coach training can take place in very different ways. For example, there are seminars, courses and training sessions that fully train you to become a professional coach, as well as short introductory courses or basic courses that introduce you to the basics of coaching and consulting. Anyone seriously considering working in this field in the future, either as an independent consultant or as a supplement and second pillar to their existing work, should be aware that sound training and regular continuing education, further training are required. After all, in order to become a consultant, it is important both to know the theoretical approaches through coaching training and to be able to apply them usefully in practice.
This means that a short seminar lasting a few days will not be enough to provide you with the necessary technical, leadership, social and coaching skills for professional training, but it will if you just want to gain a first impression. Such coaching seminars are also extremely useful if you want to expand your skills portfolio, whether for private or professional purposes.
More extensive coaching training is also possible at postgraduate level at Colleges of Higher Education and Universities of Applied Sciences. The federally recognized diploma Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education (CHE) in Business Coaching is one of these options, as are postgraduate studies leading to a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Career Coaching (UAS) or a Master of Advanced Studies in Coaching & Organizational Consulting (UAS).

First of all, you should know what type of training you are looking for, what your goals are and which educational institutions offer you exactly this. Carry out a needs analysis in which you clarify what you expect from a coach training course. Then contact a few schools and have them send you all the necessary documents by email. Use the documents and possibly ask questions to clarify the following points, among others:

• What is the reputation of the school and its graduates?
• Is the course recognized by the professional association and nationally or internationally?
• What qualifications will I acquire?
• What skills will I acquire?
• Are the framework conditions defined and acceptable to me (place of implementation, time required, self-study, teaching methods, working materials, admission criteria, etc.)?
• What qualification will I receive and is it sufficient for a professional activity?
• Do I need further specializations?
• Can I have my professional experience and previous knowledge recognized?
• What training and experience do the coaches have?

The content of a coaching course is as varied as the courses themselves.

Interested parties can focus on areas such as business, coaching for children and young people, personal development, career counseling and a variety of other fields, all of which have different target groups and therefore pursue different goals.

This also means that interested parties must inform themselves thoroughly about the individual coaching courses in order to find exactly the right one.

In coaching training, the first step is to get to know the terms and definitions, which interested parties can then use to get to know themselves better, recognize their own potential and tackle change.
It is therefore important that course participants are also prepared to work on themselves in order to achieve the best possible results.

This is followed by in-depth knowledge of how to prepare, conduct and conclude a coaching session, as well as learning about different techniques and tools. In addition, course participants train their counseling and communication skills.

Training in coaching is suitable for very different target groups. People from advisory professions, for example in education, social work, business or healthcare, but also project managers, managing directors of SMEs, managers and HR managers, are all possible candidates. In principle, anyone thinking about training or continuing education, further training to become a coach should also be prepared to do something for these additional qualifications. After all, every training course requires commitment and willingness to learn, motivation and, last but not least, sufficient time from the participants. This is because, in addition to attending classroom courses, you must always take into account the time you spend on self-study, i.e. working on what you have learned at home or at another location outside of school, or preparing for lessons. All of this takes time, but is extremely important in order to increase the learning success of your continuing education, further training and to achieve your goals. You should also always ask yourself why you are seeking such continuing education, further training. What do you expect from such a course? What professional changes do you want to achieve with coaching training and how do you want these to be implemented in your day-to-day work? Would you like to become self-employed, change jobs or move up with your current employer? Once you have clarified these questions for yourself and found an answer to at least most of them, training to become a coach might actually be suitable for you. People who want to work in this field in the future should be open to new ideas and willing to take a close look at themselves. Because before you are ready to advise other people, it is important that you get to know yourself and allow change and development processes to take place.

This question is difficult to answer, as there are a large number of coach training courses that train you in very different areas. A further training course to become a career coach, for example, cannot of course be compared with a coach for children and young people, for business, resilience training or human resources. All training or continuing education, further training courses have different content and duration, so we cannot recommend a course that you can complete quickly. Basically, you can say that a CAS, a Certificate of Advanced Studies, is a short continuing education course. It usually lasts one semester, i.e. half a year, and is completed alongside your job. Nevertheless, these CASs are usually aimed at people who are already working in the field of supervision, consulting, training or coaching and want to continue their education, training or coaching. As a newcomer, you need basic training that will enable you to help other people and support them in a wide variety of life and work situations. In this case, four hours a week for one month while working is not enough to give you the skills you need. You should therefore expect a longer training period and contact the individual schools, who will be happy to present their different training models to you. If you want to work as a mental trainer or mental coach, you have various options for training and further education in Switzerland. As there is no federally recognized training in the non-university sector, there are a large number of different courses with different focuses, also because consultants, coaches or trainers are not protected terms. Only universities of applied sciences offer continuing education courses that provide you with comprehensive training in the field of mental training. These include, for example, the postgraduate course leading to the Certificate of Advanced Studies CAS Psychological & Mental Training in Sport (UAS).
If you do not have a license for this course or would like to continue your education in another way, there are, for example, certificate courses for mental trainers or mental coaches. Basic courses are often offered that provide an initial insight into this exciting subject area and then give interested parties the opportunity to build on this by attending further courses that even include SVEB 1, for example. You will also find continuing education, further training courses that award certification from the European Coaching Association (ECA), such as the ECA Master Mental Coach / Dipl. Mentaltherapeut/in. This European-recognized training, in combination with a basic anatomical training course of 450 hours, also qualifies for registration with ASCA as a mental therapist.
If you are looking for a less comprehensive training or further education, you can, for example, do a continuing education, further training to become a certified mental and stress coach after the basic course.
