In order to be admitted to the Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) of Higher Education (Achtung: Englisch: AFPE), all required module qualifications or a corresponding certificate of equivalence must be presented and the examination fee must be paid on time. In addition, you must have worked in the heating industry for at least four years after completing your basic training and hold the federal certificate of proficiency as a head heating fitter or an equivalent qualification.

The Advanced Federal Professional Examination (AFPE) for Master Heating Engineers with a Federal Diploma is not an examination in which you are tested on pure knowledge and tick the correct solution in a multiple choice procedure. Instead, you will work on a business management case study covering topics such as costing, accounting, law and business administration. In addition to this case study, you will also write a "heating installation" dissertation, which is prepared in advance and discussed in a technical discussion and presented orally in a presentation during the examination.
