Classroom assistance - help for pupils and teaching staff

The increasing expectations and demands of school education are particularly stressful for children with deficits. They may be a little slower, not very flexible or adaptable, less motivated or not so involved in their families that they would be able to cope with the school material and requirements on their own. Increasing observations of such situations have led to the emergence of an entirely new professional field to provide integrative support and assistance to teachers: classroom assistants. More and more primary and secondary schools are employing so-called co-teachers, classroom helpers or assistants. Their job titles are as varied as their tasks - there is currently no official job description. Classroom assistants take on all the tasks that support teachers in their daily challenges, such as making copies, looking after individual children or young people or small groups, helping children and young people with questions about school material or work assignments. They therefore form an interface in the triangle of child/young person, teaching staff and school.

My course for school, class and care assistants is open to all interested parties (no employment in care is required). The lessons are varied and include numerous case studies, group work and learning through play. We also cover topics such as new authority according to Haim Omer, resilience, closeness and distance, non-violent communication according to M. Rosenberg as well as learning and learning difficulties, ADHD, ASD and much more.

The school, class and care assistants are very valuable in our school system and it is hard to imagine life without them. They relieve teachers during lessons when dealing with heterogeneous classes. They also look after the children during lunchtimes and off-peak times. Professional foundations, skills and self-reflection are very important in both settings. My continuing education, further training is tailored precisely to these skills and gives participants the necessary tools to interact with teachers, children and young people in a mindful and professional manner.
