The professional titles of life coach, life counselor, life coach or personality coach are not protected in Switzerland. Therefore, in contrast to other professional groups, there are hardly any legal barriers - not even a duty of confidentiality (secret, particularly sensitive personal data or personality profiles are, however, subject to the duty of confidentiality). In principle, therefore, any life coach in Switzerland can call themselves a life coach and offer a corresponding service - regardless of whether they work as a life coach without training. Legally, however, this creates a relationship of trust. Trust in life coaches is certainly greater if they have completed further life coach training or life coach training. Anyone who is aiming for a serious life coach career should therefore also learn life coaching.

Life coach training provides a sound basis for competently supporting people in personal change processes. The content taught is practical and versatile - both in a private and professional context. It is about much more than motivation and conducting conversations: life coach training promotes personal development, methodological knowledge and advisory skills.

The following topics are typically part of life coaching training:

• Basics of counseling: introduction to the work of a life coach, understanding the role and building a professional coaching relationship.
• Differentiation from other professional groups: Differentiation from business coaching, psychosocial counseling, therapy or classic life coaching.
• Core topics in everyday coaching: focus on life planning, self-realization, decision-making and personal development.
• Methodological competence: A variety of tools and techniques from coaching, including questioning techniques, systemic approaches and solution-oriented methods.
• Work-life balance and resilience: support in dealing with stress, exhaustion and the search for inner balance.

A personality coaching course provides a sound basis for professionally supporting people in their personal development. The focus is on self-reflection, emotional competence and the ability to stimulate and support change processes. Typical content includes

The Emotion Coach course provides participants with the skills they need to support and strengthen clients in their development processes and in emotionally tense situations in life.

An emotion coaching course covers the following topics, for example: Searching for meaning, healing old injuries, resonance fields and their realignment, self-worth and strengthening self-confidence, personality development, forgiveness, shadow issues, systematic relationship coaching, the inner child (transactional analysis), biographical coaching, vocation coaching, happiness strategies, group and family coaching, design therapy coaching (painting coaching), crises and conflict situations and values coaching.

Coach training can take place in very different ways. For example, there are seminars, courses and training sessions that fully train you to become a professional coach, as well as short introductory courses or basic courses that introduce you to the basics of coaching and consulting. Anyone seriously considering working in this field in the future, either as an independent consultant or as a supplement and second pillar to their existing work, should be aware that sound training and regular continuing education, further training are required. After all, in order to become a consultant, it is important both to know the theoretical approaches through coaching training and to be able to apply them usefully in practice.
This means that a short seminar lasting a few days will not be enough to provide you with the necessary technical, leadership, social and coaching skills for professional training, but it will if you just want to gain a first impression. Such coaching seminars are also extremely useful if you want to expand your skills portfolio, whether for private or professional purposes.
More extensive coaching training is also possible at postgraduate level at Colleges of Higher Education and Universities of Applied Sciences. The federally recognized diploma Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education (CHE) in Business Coaching is one of these options, as are postgraduate studies leading to a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Career Coaching (UAS) or a Master of Advanced Studies in Coaching & Organizational Consulting (UAS).
