Swiss Professional Association for Applied Psychology
The Swiss Professional Association for Applied Psychology SBAP was founded in 1952 by Prof. Hans Biäsch. It is one of the oldest Swiss psychology associations with over 900 members.

In the legal form of an association, the SBAP represents the professional interests of its members and the interests of applied psychology. The SBAP is a member of the umbrella organization FH SCHWEIZ. SBAP members benefit from all services and discounts.

Continuing education, further training in emergency psychology comprises around 12 face-to-face sessions, although the number of days may vary depending on the provider.

Continuing education, further training in emergency psychology is suitable not only for psychologists but also for social pedagogues, doctors, theologians, teachers, social pedagogues, social workers, police officers and nurses.

If you want to work as an emergency psychologist, you need a master's degree in psychology or a comparable qualification as well as recognized continuing education, further training in emergency psychology, such as attending a course run by SBAP, the Swiss Professional Association for Applied Psychology.

As a rule, the following topics are covered in an emergency psychology course:

  • Basics of emergency psychology: e.g. definition and tasks of emergency psychology, psychological reactions to acute stress and trauma
  • Psychological first aid: e.g. conducting conversations in emergency situations, stabilization techniques, dealing with shock, dissociation and strong emotions, communicating with relatives, witnesses and victims, activating resources in victims
  • Intervention on the scene: including behavior on the scene (e.g. accident, suicide, violence, disasters), cooperation with police, rescue services and emergency doctors, intercultural and age-appropriate communication, support for children and young people after traumatic experiences
  • Self-protection: e.g. recognizing your own limits, supervision & reflection
  • Special topics and practical application: e.g. delivering death notifications, suicide and suicidal crises, support in cases of sudden infant death syndrome, violence or sexualized violence, school emergencies and corporate emergencies (such as rampage or suicide)
  • Legal and organizational framework conditions: e.g. data protection, duty of confidentiality
