More and more people are no longer relying on conventional medicine alone, but would also like to take advantage of complementary or alternative medical treatments. The various massage services in particular are popular and may even be covered by health insurance. Nowadays, trained specialists in the therapeutic massage sector in Switzerland enhance the well-being of their patients on a daily basis and help them to find relief from discomfort and greater mobility. It is important to us at Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch to provide you with an overview of the various training courses in this field and to list the relevant providers.

Working with the foot reflex zones is an important part of many massage treatments. In this respect, many training courses are also offered in the field of foot reflexology or foot reflexology therapy (FRZ). Many people interested in training are confused about the EMR methods in particular. There is often a certain amount of uncertainty, because: What is the difference between massage and therapy? What can I call myself after completing the course? Which of the two courses is suitable for me?

Basically, it can be said that the EMR requires more training hours in the vast majority of cases as soon as the job title or diploma contains the word "therapy". Therapeutic training requires more than just learning the "craft". The designation "foot reflexology therapist" is not listed by the EMR in this form. Continuing education, further training foot reflexologytherapytherefore strictly speaking belongs to EMR method no. 240 of reflexology, which requires at least 500 hours of method training and 340 hours of medical basics. In comparison, the EMR requires the following for method no. 81 of reflexologymassageonly 100 hours of method training and 150 hours of medical basics. In addition to the training hours, the EMR requires an additional 250 hours of proven experience in a pratical or in working with patients in one's own practice at the time of registration of all methods.

If your goal is to become a "therapeutic massage therapist" (EMR method no. 33), the path via foot reflexology may be faster. You will need a total of 400 hours of method training (including 100 hours of reflexology, 150 hours of classic massage, 150 hours of manual lymphatic drainage) and 340 hours of medical basics.

It is therefore very important that you know in advance whether continuing education, further training in foot reflexology will bring you to your desired goal. Clarify the number of hours of method training and whether and to what extent the medical basics are included with the school in advance.

In principle, EMR registration in this area requires the following evidence:

  • Foot reflexology (EMR method 81): 100 hours method training + 150 hours medical basics
  • Foot reflexology as an additional offer for medical masseurs with Federal Diploma of Higher Education (EMR Method 82): 100 hours of method training
  • Reflexology (EMR method 163): 100 hours method training + 150 hours medical basics
  • Reflexology (EMR method 240): 500 hours of method training + 340 hours of medical basics
  • Reflexology (EMR method 419): Complementary therapist with federal diploma
  • Reflexology (EMR method 4191): Branch certificate OdA KT
  • Therapeutic massage (method 33): 400 hours method training (100 hours foot reflexology, 150 hours classical massage, 150 hours manual lymphatic drainage) + 340 hours medical basics
