Compensation & Performance Management - Performance Management

Performance management is the term used to describe the management of a company that is responsible for regulating the provision of services. This involves calculating and controlling the time required to fulfill services and the resources tied up in the process. This allows the activity performed to be evaluated (time times performance). Such calculations are carried out in order to measure, control and monitor performance and to be able to understand the different application structures and performance levels (processes, departments, teams, employees). This is the only way to continuously optimize individual levels and increase the company's performance. One of the aims of performance management is to motivate employees and promote their learning processes. The Performance Measurement System is used for this purpose, which guarantees consistent performance recording.

A relevant course of study in this area is, for example, the CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies) in Compensation & Performance Management UAS. Compensation management includes management skills in human resources management, which is responsible for remuneration in the form of wages and salaries or other compensation. In this respect, the combination of performance and compensation management is the optimal prerequisite for managing compensation and remuneration. The aim of compensation and performance managers is to ensure fair wages in order to value employees, competitive salaries to attract competent employees, remuneration systems that increase employee motivation, special recognition for special achievements and wages that are appropriate according to the company's results.

In order to complete the CAS Performance Management, you must have a degree from a University of Applied Sciences or university and at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Persons without a university degree, but with at least five years of relevant professional experience and corresponding previous training at continuing education and training / tertiary level (Federal Professional Examination, Advanced Professional Examination or College of Higher Education), can be admitted on a "sur dossier" basis.

The certificate course aims to provide participants with the skills required to align performance and compensation management explicitly with the corporate strategy and, building on this, to create concepts that ensure the implementation of the strategy and its effectiveness. To this end, course participants also acquire the knowledge required to determine and utilize the performance driver-impact relationships.

The CAS in Performance and Compensation Management course at a University of Applied Sciences generally covers the following topics (divided into different modules):

  • Fundamentals of performance management (objectives and functions of performance management, target agreement systems & target management, performance appraisal & feedback culture, measurement of individual and collective performance)
  • Compensation management (remuneration models and remuneration systems, fixed vs. variable remuneration, pay transparency, pay equity, equal pay)
  • Psychological & strategic aspects (motivation theories & reward systems, behavioral economic perspectives, strategic design of incentive systems)
  • Legal & organizational framework conditions
  • Key figures & controlling (KPI-based management of performance & remuneration, benchmarks and market comparisons)
  • Integration & implementation

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) Performance and Compensation Management comprises 14 days of instruction spread over 4 months. The workload of the course is around 300 hours, whereby the learning effort of each student is of course individual.
